We actively encourage the participation of international students in campus life, with inclusivity supported by dedicated staff, services and events for those arriving in Canada from overseas. Students study across four campuses, all based in Hamilton, a city with a population of around half a million people, one in four of which were born outside Canada.
With a focus on work-based learning, students gain real-world skills thanks to numerous co-op programs with partnered companies, as well as excellent, stimulating learning facilities that have recently undergone dramatic renovation.

Mohawk College is one of the largest public colleges in Ontario, Canada and boasts a vibrant international population.
Based in the beautiful city of Hamilton on the shores of Lake Ontario, Mohawk College welcomes around 13,000 students each academic year – including more than 4,000 international students from over 100 different countries. Located only 45 minutes from Toronto, students receive a dynamic and exciting learning experience with more than 100 programs available to international students including certificates, diplomas, post-grad certificates, degrees and pathways.
Mohawk specializes in program areas such as healthcare, technology, business, skilled trades, community services and communication arts as well as other subjects. With over CAD 100 million spent on campus renovations in the past 6 years, students have access to top-notch facilities and over 33 co-op programs to choose from. The college also has 167 full-time programs and over 31 graduate programs to choose from. There are four campuses all located in Hamilton: Fennell campus, Stoney Creek Campus for Skilled Trades, Institute for Applied Health Sciences at McMaster and the Centre for Aviation Excellence at Hamilton International Airport.
Requirements and Admissions
If you are interested in applying to Mohawk College, you should apply through the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) – International Applicant System
To qualify for admission to Mohawk College there are certain requirements all students need to meet including the following:
- Age Requirement – must be 17 years of age or older at the start of teaching. If you are under 18 years of age you will need to provide a notarized Custodianship Declaration to the International team.
- English Language Requirement – there are different entry requirements for individual programs at Mohawk College, although each course carries a minimum English language requirements for international students. These also vary depending on the course, so you should check specific course requirements. Although some programs are higher, the majority of Mohawk College’s diploma programs have the following entry requirements:
- Completion of the Mohawk College English for Academic Purposes program level 8 with 70%
- TOEFL with a minimum score of 550, or 80 if internet based
- IELTS Academic with minimum score of 6.0 overall, with no band lower than 5.5, or
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma & English Credit (Grade 12 U, M or C) issued from an Ontario public school board
- Academic Requirements – At a minimum, you must provide proof of your academic standing equivalent to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12 High School). The specific certificate or proof required depends on what country you are applying from. For students in post-grad programs additional academic documentation will be required.
- Visa Requirements – Canadian regulations require all international students who would like to study in Canada to apply for a student visa (sometimes called a study permit).
Some of the more popular programs have highly competitive admissions periods. This means that there is a deadline for applications to receive equal consideration, which is usually February for a September course start and June for a January course start. While demand can be high on some occasions, you should not be deterred by the application process and there may still be places available after the deadlines. You should check deadlines for individual courses as they may vary.
