English Language Pathway Programs
Toronto Metropolitan University’s English Language Institute is a leader in high-quality language education, providing ESL programs for learners from different backgrounds and levels of proficiency. The English Language Institute’s mission is to help students achieve academic and personal success while building a pathway to TMU’s undergraduate programs.
Our strong focus on innovation and evidence-based research has made us a preferred partner for government, industry, not-for-profit organizations, communities and individuals. Requirements and Admissions

Scholarships and Bursaries
International students may qualify for entrance scholarships and distinguished awards.
International Student Merit Scholarships
The International Student Merit Scholarships are awarded to international students who are entering their first year of a full-time, four-year undergraduate degree program at TMU in the Fall or Winter term. It’s for students who do well academically, volunteer, join clubs and show leadership qualities. A minimum 85%/A or equivalent final admission average is required for consideration.
Fall 2024: Up to 40 recipients, $10,000 CAD (entrance only, non-renewable)
Winter 2025: Up to 20 recipients, $10,000 CAD (entrance only, non-renewable)
President’s Entrance Scholarship
The President’s Entrance Scholarship is awarded to secondary school graduates who demonstrate academic accomplishment, leadership qualities, original thought and creative ability.
Twelve (12) recipients, $40,000 CAD (total value) | $10,000 CAD (annual amount) (renewable)
A minimum 90% final admission average is required for consideration. An applicant’s average is calculated with their best six Grade 12 U/M courses, or their home country’s equivalent.
International students (on a study visa) attending and completing studies at a Canadian secondary school may qualify for the Guaranteed and Renewable Scholarship.

All-Gender Housing
Residence is an inclusive community. All-gender housing means that you only need to disclose your gender should you wish to be matched with a roommate or suitemate of the same gender identity as yours.
Community
Living on campus will immerse you in the residence and the TMU community. You will have the opportunity to build connections with a diverse group of people and be involved in residence and campus life. It is your chance to be at the heart of events and activities happening on campus and in the city of Toronto.

Our Residence Service Desk staff always monitor building access to ensure our residence buildings are safe and supportive communities.
