Profile

Ontario Tech University, founded in 2002, is a publicly funded research university based in Canada.

It is situated in the Eastern Greater Toronto Area and has conferred over 16,000 degrees. Students have a wide choice of subjects to choose from, for example Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Law, Health Sciences and pre-Medicine.

The university focuses on science, technology, engineering and the development of regional business and helps with the acceleration of economic growth, inspiring its students to make an impact in today’s world.

Its diverse array of 56 career-oriented undergraduate programs equips graduates with skills and knowledge to lead and succeed in the 21st century workplace.

As one of Canada’s most dynamic and youngest universities, Ontario Tech has new classrooms, labs, study areas and state-of-the-art learning facilities. The university offers a number of scholarships and bursaries to help students in need.

Requirements and Admissions

All applicants to full-time undergraduate programs should apply in one of two ways; choose only one.

Option One

The OUAC online application system allows you to apply to multiple Ontario universities or programs with one application. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Apply online using the OUAC website (Opens In A New Tab) using the 105 application.
  2. Be sure to apply by the application deadline for the program to which you want to be admitted. You can choose up to three programs.
  3. Once the university receives your application from the OUAC, we will send you information regarding the next steps in the admissions process.

Option Two

If you are only applying to Ontario Tech, apply internally at ontariotechu.ca/internationalapplication (Opens In A New Tab). You can apply to three programs for a $100 application fee.

Student Experience

Scholarships and Bursaries

International Merit Awards

If you are an international secondary school student entering an undergraduate program at the university on a study permit and are currently studying outside of Canada, you may be eligible for one of the university’s Merit Awards.

International Merit Awards—valued at up to $4,000—are automatically awarded to the top five applicants with the highest admission grade-point-average from each of the identified regions. The Merit Awards are non-renewable.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for the International Merit Awards.

Global Leadership Award

If you are an international secondary school student entering an undergraduate program at the university on a study permit and are currently studying outside of Canada, you can apply for the university’s Global Leadership Award (GLA).

The GLA is one of our most prestigious entrance awards. Valued at $72,000 ($18,000 a year for four years), the GLA recognizes international secondary school applicants with strong academic and leadership abilities. Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for the GLA.

International Leader Award

If you are an international secondary school student entering an undergraduate program at the university on a study permit and are currently studying outside of Canada, you may be eligible for the International Leader Award (ILA).

The ILA is an entrance award that recognizes high-achieving international students entering an undergraduate program at Ontario Tech University in September 2022. Valued at $10,000, this one-year scholarship will be awarded to eligible students that have applied for the Global Leadership Award. A maximum of five will be awarded.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for the ILA. Recipients may be required to complete up to 40 hours per semester in volunteer work with the International Recruitment office.

Housing

Ontario Tech University offers student housing and all the resources you need for an unforgettable university experience. Our student housing is conveniently located minutes away from campus lecture halls, so you never have to worry about being late for any of your classes. You’ll also have plenty of opportunities to get involved in many of our campus events and activities.

First time living on campus? Our friendly residence staff will be happy to answer any of your questions or concerns about our student housing. Oshawa is not only a beautiful city to live in, but it’s also home to students from all around the world. No matter where you’re from, you’ll have a unique opportunity to discover new cultures and be part of a diverse global community!

When you move in, you’ll enjoy premium amenities in each Ontario Tech U residence. Every suite comes with all the conveniences we know you can’t live without! That means high-speed internet access, TV with HDMI capabilities and a phone with free local calls.

All Ontario Tech University housing units also include a common kitchen area, a movie lounge, a games room for get-togethers and a front desk with 24-hour support. Best of all, you’ll also have access to quiet study rooms where you can prep for classes individually or as a group. These rooms are perfect for studying for exams, doing homework or reviewing what you’ve learned in class.

Security is another feature you won’t have to worry about when you move into our student housing. Our buildings feature trusted security technology, including swipe card access at our Oshawa location and 24-hour video monitoring. In the event of a security incident, we’ll be able to reach you within minutes and make sure you’re safe.

Through our weekly residence events, you’ll also have a chance to get to know other residents and discuss anything that may be on your mind. We encourage all of our students to develop real-life skills and experience everything that campus life has to offer!
